Barrow County Sheriff Warns of New Fed Impersonator Scam

The Barrow County Sheriff’s office is warning of a new phone scam by people claiming to be from the Federal government.

According to Barrow County Sheriff Jud Smith, his office was recently notified by a local citizen about a phone call from a person who said they were a U.S. Customs and Border Agent.

The caller gave the name of “Agent CBP Roderick Kise”.

He stated the citizen needed to give him personal information regarding a federal investigation and assets he owned.

The caller also stated the citizen he needed to sign and email him an “Assets Declaration Form”.

Sheriff Smith said the citizen realized it was a scam and advised the caller that he would not sign anything unless it was in person and in the presence of a local law enforcement office and the scammer would not agree to that.

Smith said the the scammer made the call seem very legitimate and he added it would be easy for someone to be scammed out of money and personal information.

So far, only the Barrow County Sheriff’s office has had this scam reported but it is important to know that the scam is circulating by phone and possibly also by text or email.

If you receive such a phone call, email, or text, just hang up, or delete the email or text.

If you have lost money or personal information to this scam, contact your local law enforcement agency.
