PEDESTRIAN STRUCK BY VEHICLE IN HARTWELL WEDNESDAY NIGHT

A 70-year-old Hart County man suffered serious injuries Wednesday night as he attempted to help a motorist at the intersection of Highway GA8/US29 and Elizabeth Road.

According to Corporal William Jordan with the Georgia State Patrol Hartwell Post 52 it happened at about 8p Wednesday evening.

“TFC Green and Cadet Negron responded to a crash on GA 8/US29 at the intersection with Elizabeth Road in Hartwell. A 2004 Chevy Avalanche traveling south on GA 8/US29 attempted to turn onto Elizabeth Road and lost part of its load,” Cpl. Jordan said. “A 2016 Toyota 4-Runner that was traveling north on GA 8/US29 struck a pedestrian who had exited their vehicle and was standing in the roadway helping the driver who lost the load clear the roadway.”

The pedestrian was transported to ANMED in Anderson South Carolina with serious injuries. No other injuries were reported.

Jordan said the driver of the 2004 Chevy Avalanche was issued a citation for Unsecure Load. No charges were taken on the driver of the 2016 Toyota 4-Runner.
