Stores Next to Dill’s Remain Closed For Repairs and Clean Up

Stores on both sides of Dill’s Food City in Royston are closed until further notice due to smoke and water damage from Saturday morning’s fire.

Signs have been posted on the doors of Savannah Valley Carpets, Tri-County Sports, and El Manzanillo Mexican Restaurant by the Royston Fire Department saying the stores are not safe to enter at this time.

The Pearson Family, owners of Savannah Valley Carpets have also posted their phone numbers on their storefront for anyone needing to reach them and stated they hope to be able to reopen soon.

Industrial strength blow dryers were being used inside Tri-County Sports Monday to help dry out the floor.

Over the weekend, Royston firefighters were called back multiple times to Dill’s to put out hotspots.

As of Monday, debris at the store was still smoldering.

Chief Matt Elrod said because of the amount of debris, it has been difficult for firefighters to get inside to get water in those areas.

He said on their Facebook page his team spent the better part of the weekend through Sunday night trying to gain access to areas where the fire continued to smolder.

Again, unless you work in one of the businesses in that strip mall unaffected by the fire, you are being asked to stay away due to the danger that still exists.
