Emmanuel University, in partnership with the NFL and RCX Sports, along with support from the Atlanta Falcons is thrilled to announce its plan to be the first NCAA Division II institution to offer varsity women’s flag football.

The anticipated start date for the program will be fall 2024 with athletic scholarships available for student-athletes.

Currently, there are 15 NAIA colleges located in the Midwest and Southeast that offer women’s flag football at the varsity level.

“We are grateful that we have another exciting opportunity for young women to compete in collegiate athletics on the Emmanuel University campus,” said Vice President for Athletics, Nate Moorman. “We have high expectations for the program and look forward to developing these young women into impactful champions.”

The season will run from March 2025-mid May and the team will compete against opponents from NAIA.

“We are pleased to provide another opportunity for female student-athletes to participate in an exciting sport and receive financial assistance for a quality educational experience,” said Emmanuel University President, Greg Hearn. “We appreciate the support we have received from the NFL, the Atlanta Falcons, Conference Carolinas, and RCX in making this addition to our athletics program possible. We hope that being the first NCAA Division II institution to take this step will encourage the expansion of Women’s Flag Football at all levels of competition.”

Greg Beadles, President of the Atlanta Falcons is thrilled to hear the news and excited to be involved in the growing sport.

“We are proud to hear that women’s flag football is now an official sport at Emmanuel University,” says Atlanta Falcons President, Greg Beadles. “The Falcons have worked tirelessly to inspire communities nationwide to recognize the significance of sports for young athletes, especially women. We are grateful to see our efforts make an impact, not only at the high school level but also at the collegiate level and hope to continue to inspire the growth of women’s flag football.”

Conference Carolinas Commissioner, Chris Colvin believes this addition will be impactful for not only Emmanuel but Conference Carolinas as a whole.

“This is an exciting announcement for not only Emmanuel University but also for Conference Carolinas, the state of Georgia, and the region,” said Conference Carolinas Commissioner Chris Colvin. “Women’s flag football has grown immensely over the last few years in the region and the state of Georgia through collaborative efforts with the NFL and the Atlanta Falcons. This sport is going to have a strong future. Emmanuel’s addition of flag football helps to continue these amazing efforts, while also offering more opportunities for female student-athletes. I look forward to the potential addition of more Conference Carolinas women’s flag football programs in the future.”

A national search for a head coach and recruiting for student athletes for the sport will begin immediately.
