Ken Eavenson Running for Re-Election as Franklin County Probate Judge

Franklin County Probate Judge Ken Eavanson is running for re-election.

Eavenson tells WLHR News he made the announcement last week after several people had asked him if he was running again.

“I had a couple of people asking if I was considering running for re-election this year, and I didn’t want there to be any question about that,” he said. “I definitely want to remain as Probate Judge. This will be my 12th year. I have a great staff and I wish to continue to serve as Probate Judge of this County.”

The duties of the Franklin County Probate Judge include administering oaths of office, issuing marriage and firearms licenses, serving as the Vital Records custodian of the County, and issuing Birth and Death Certificates.

The Probate Court has the authority to hold habeas corpus hearings or preside over criminal preliminary hearings.

Unless a jury trial is requested, the probate court handles certain misdemeanors, traffic cases, and violations of state game and fish laws.

The Court also exercises exclusive, original jurisdiction in the probate of wills, administration of estates, the appointment of legal guardians for minors and adults, and involuntary hospitalization of incapacitated adults and other individuals.

Records that date back to the late 1800s are retained in the court vault.

Qualifying for all open County offices begins Monday, March 4 and runs through Friday, March 8 at noon in the Franklin County Board of Elections office in Carnesville.
