Franklin, Hart Counties Moved to 10th Congressional District

On December 28, a federal judge accepted the newly redrawn Georgia congressional and legislative voting districts saying the creation of new majority-Black voting districts areas around metro Atlanta solved the illegal minority vote dilution that led him to order maps to be redrawn.

But while that news may have gone largely unnoticed to people in Northeast Georgia it meant a big change for all voters here in Franklin and Hart Counties.

What many in Northeast Georgia may or may not realize is that Franklin and Hart counties are no longer in the 9th Congressional District, as of January 1.

Franklin and Hart County are now in the 10th Congressional District according to the new map, meaning Congressman Andrew Clyde, R-Gainesville, is no longer our US Representative.

A representative from Rep. Clyde’s Gainesville office confirmed to WLHR News Tuesday that under the redrawn Congressional map, they have lost Franklin and Hart Counties to the 10th District. The 9th Congressional District also lost Lumpkin County but gained Jackson County.

The Congressman for Franklin and Hart Counties is now the 10th District Republican Representative Mike Collins of Jackson, Georgia.

The redrawn districts will be used in the 2024 Elections.

Under the latest redistricting, the 10th Congressional District now extends from Franklin County in Northeast Georgia down to Hancock County in Middle Georgia.

So if you haven’t done so already now might be a good time to familiarize yourself with the 10th Congressional District and its Representative.

Congressman Collins has served as the 10th US Representative since 2023 when he defeated Vernon Jones in a run-off in 2022.

He serves on a number of Congressional committees including the House Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure, the House Committee on Natural Resources, and the House Committee on Science, Space, and Technology.
