And in 2023, Franklin County Schools saw a changing of the guard in their Athletic Department.

In January, the Board of Education named former Assistant Principal Clay Moore as the New Athletic Director and Contract Services Director.

Moore had been serving as the Acting Athletic Director since Jason Oliver retired in November 2022.

Moore said he’s grateful for the new opportunity.

“God gave me the opportunity to do this. I’ve been here my entire life. I went to school here, graduated from here and I’ve been a part of athletics in different areas of the school system my entire career. So, I’m fortunate for the opportunity to pick up the torch and keep moving forward,” said Moore after the meeting.

He received his Bachelor’s degree from Emmanuel College and went on to obtain his Master’s degree from Liberty University as well as a Specialty degree from Piedmont College.

Moore’s first priority was to hire a new Football Coach and that came in February when the School Board announced the hiring of Chuck Holland.

Like Moore, Holland is a lifelong Franklin County resident and Lions allum.

After the announcement, Holland said he’s excited to have what he calls his dream job.

“I’m extremely excited. I’ve told people and it kind of sounds cliche and even corny but this truly is my dream job. I’ve had the privilege of serving the Franklin County community even going back to my years as Youth Director. Starting in 2006, I spent eight years at the Middle School. I also spent three at the high school as an Assistant Coach. So it truly is a dream job,” he said.

Before being named the new Football Coach, Holland had served for two years as the head coach for Football and Track at the Franklin County Middle School.
