Last Day to Mail Packages if You Want Them There in Time for Christmas

It’s crunch time if you have yet to get those packages mailed to loved ones in time for Christmas.

The deadline to send packages via Priority Mail was Monday, the 18th.

So if you want those gifts to be under the tree Christmas morning you have until today, yes today, to get them there.

But sending your packages at this late date will cost you more.

When mailing packages make sure you have a sturdy box and that the box is well taped with sturdy shipping tape, not scotch tape.

Susie Rowland, the Officer in Charge at the Lavonia Post Office says if you are sending something fragile, you need to let the postal workers know.

And if you’re planning to send those special Christmas cookies you always make to loved ones and friends or some other perishable food items, Rowland said the post office also needs to know that.

The US Postal Service announced this week that over 150,000 of their employees nationwide have been converted to full-time career positions with USPS since 2020, and an additional 10,000 seasonal workers were hired this year.

They have also extended working hours, including early a.m. deliveries in select markets to ensure timely deliveries.
