Local Toys for Tots Chapter Helping Over 4,000 Children Have a Happy Christmas

Bags of toys ready for distribution at Toys for Tots warehouse

We’ve been keeping up this holiday season with efforts by the local chapter of Toys for Tots to provide toys and gifts to families in need.

The local chapter serves Franklin, Hart, and Elbert counties.

WLHR News caught up with director Mike Prather last week as he and his wife along with volunteers were sorting, bagging, and distributing toys at their warehouse in Royston.

Prather said this will be another record-breaking year in toy distribution.

Even so, he said they continue to get calls with requests for toys for children at Christmas and this year they’ve already handed out well over the number of toys from last year.

And the number of donations of toys also is breaking records. Prather said they are receiving donations of toys as well as monetary donations from more companies, churches, and civic organizations than ever before.

Among them, is the Georgia Department of Motor Vehicle Compliance Division and Trooper Sgt. Greene who operates the weigh station on I-85SB.

Prather said he single-handedly gathered over 800 toys and monetary donations from truckers.

Prather said they will be taking applications through the 20th but distributing toys through the 23rd.

If you need toys for children this Christmas you still have time to contact Prather at Toys for Tots.

That number is 706-297-8431 or 706-297-3275 or go online to Toys for Tots.org.
