Franklin Co Health Dept Re-Opens Monday after Months-long Renovation

After several months of renovations, the Franklin County Health Department will re-open on Monday, December 18.

This week, the Franklin County Health Department announced it would be closed to services all this week while staff work to move back into the health department building.

Over the summer, District 2 Public Health announced a temporary closure of the Franklin County Health Department building for an extensive renovation project.

County Manager Derrick Turner told the Board that after an inspection it was determined the building needed repair.

According to Turner, the main problem with the health department building on Highway 145 in Carnesville was the deterioration of the plumbing. He also noted that the building is one of many county buildings in need of major renovation.

At their July meeting, Turner asked the Board to approve the only bidder for the project, PeachState General Contractors and it passed unanimously.

The total cost of the renovation according to Turner was estimated to be $248,000, which was paid for with SPLOST funds.

During renovations, Health Department services such as dental, WIC, women’s health, and immunizations were located in various other health departments in Northeast Georgia.
