19 Local Methodist Churches Disaffiliate from United Methodist Denomintation

Conservative Methodist churches in our area that have left the mainstream United Methodist Church are joining other conservative Methodist congregations to plan their first general international conference under a new denomination name, The Global Methodist Church.

At a regional special session conference in November, 261 UMC churches in Georgia formally disaffiliated from the United Methodist Church amid a schism over theological differences and the role of LGBTQ+ people in the denomination.

One local church that voted to leave UMC was First United Methodist of Toccoa.

The Pastor, the Rev. Brent White, said his congregation believes in continuing to follow Scripture and believes the UMC has strayed from that.

In our area other Methodist churches that have disaffiliated with the UMC include:

Antioch UMC Clayton
Bethesda UMC Hartwell
Bold Spring UMC Carnesville

Commerce First UMC
Confidence UMC Stephens County

The GMC’s first international conference is scheduled for September 2024 in California.
