Arson Suspect Asking for Reduced Bond

The attorney for a Carnesville man charged with two counts of felony first-degree arson will be back in court next week to ask for a reduced bond.

In June, Insurance and Safety Fire Commissioner John F. King announced the arrest of 53-year-old James Anthony Stamps, of Carnesville, on two counts of first-degree arson.

King said that on the morning of May 15th, a passing patrol officer from the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office reported a residential structure fire on Old Federal Road.

He said a second home fire was called in less than an hour later on nearby JH Shirley Road.

After speaking with witnesses and reviewing surveillance footage from a local business, investigators identified Mr. Stamps as the primary suspect of the blazes.

Stamps is also charged with two counts of misdemeanor Criminal Tresspass.

Mr. Stamps was arrested by the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office on June 7th and is being held in the Franklin County Detention Center.
