Lavonia City Council to Decide Tonight Poultry Producer’s Annexation Request

A reminder that the Lavonia City Council will hold a special called meeting this evening to decide whether to annex property owned by Jarrett Foods into the City limits.

The Company has purchased just over 16 acres at the corner of Highway 17 and Grady School Rd in the County and they are renovating the existing building for a poultry processing plant.

At the regular City Council meeting last week, Mayor Courtney Umbehant explained why the Council could not vote on the Jarrett requests at that time.

At the Planning & Zoning meeting meeting last month, many citizens spoke against the annexation citing the heavy traffic it might cause and other issues.

After hearing from citizens, a motion was made to approve the annexation request but it died for lack of a second.

The Mayor said that neither he nor the Council would tolerate any kind of similar display at tonight’s meeting.

Mayor Umbehant added that anyone who violates the public comment code of conduct will not be allowed to comment at future public hearings.

Again, the Lavonia City Council will hold a special called meeting this evening at 6p to decide whether to annex Jarret Foods property on Hwy 17 and Grady School Road into the City.

The meeting will take place at Lavonia City Hall and is open to the public.
