Fr. Co. Board of Education Officially Hires Burton-Brown as New School Superintendent

As expected, the Franklin County Board of Education has formally hired Melanie-Burton Brown as the new School Superintendent for the Franklin County Charter System.

At their meeting last week, the Board voted unanimously to hire Burton-Brown to succeed the late Superintendent Chris Forrer.

After the vote, Burton-Brown thanked everyone for their confidence in her and said she has a great team to work with.

“We’re looking forward to it and we really appreciate you taking this on,” said Board Chair Robin Cato. “It’s difficult enough to take it on but to take it on under the circumstances and the work you’ve done leading up to it, we very much appreciate it. We think you are cut out for it, for this job at this time, for this season and we’re proud of you.”

Cato said Burton-Brown is the right person for the job at the right time.

Acting Superintendent Chuck Colquitt said he will be just a phone call away.

On January 12, noting their desire to continue the plans developed by Chris Forrer, the Board of Education named Burton-Brown as their sole finalist for the School Superintendent’s position at their work session on January 12.

Cato said at the time they chose Burton-Brown because she is familiar with the strategic plan and agrees the school system is heading in the right direction.

Burton-Brown will officially take over as the new School Superintendent on May 1st.
