Two More Drive-thru Flu Clinics Scheduled in Franklin County This Month

If you missed the drive-thru flu clinic in Royston Thursday in Franklin County, you have two more chances this month.

District 2 Public Health wants to make getting a flu vaccine easier for county residents by providing fast and easy flu shots while they remain seated in their cars.

Every year since 2007, the district has provided an opportunity to avoid the flu and drive-thru for a flu vaccine.

The health department will host drive-thru flu clinics throughout the Franklin County community this month.

The first one happened Thursday at the Royston Housing Authority.

Then coming up next Tuesday, on October 19, there will be a drive-through flu clinic at the Lavonia Fire Station next to Lavonia City Hall from 7:30a to 2p.

Then finally, there will be another drive-through flu clinic on October 26 at the Franklin County Health Department in Carnesville from 10a to 6p.

Individuals who would like to receive their flu shot at the drive-thru must be 18 and older, must remain in their vehicles, and are asked to wear a mask.

Franklin County Health Department Nurse Manager Angy Fowler says children 6mos and up may receive a flu shot if accompanied by a parent or guardian.

This year, the quadrivalent vaccine (four-in-one) will serve as the regular flu vaccine and will protect against four different strains of flu, both A and B strains of the influenza viruses.

The high-dose vaccine, which is also a quadravalent vaccine, will be available for persons 65 and older.

According to the Centers for Disease Control in Atlanta you can get the flu vaccine and a COVID vaccine at the same time if you have not yet been vaccinated for COVID-19.

Both the flu and COVID vaccines are free to anyone who has Medicare, Medicaid and most commercial insurances.

If you are self-pay, the flu shot is $30.
