Hart BOE Pushes Back Start of Fall Semester

Students in Hart County will begin the fall semester a little later than normal.

At their meeting Monday evening, the Hart County School Board of Education voted to adjust the 2020-2021 school calendar and made the following recommendations.

The new start date for students will be Monday, August 17, 2020.

Parents will be given the option of allowing their student to return to in-person classes at school or continue online distance learning, except for Pre-K which will be in-person.

The in-person option will comply with guidelines set forth by the Governor and the Georgia Department of Education.

Those interested in participating in the virtual option will be required to register their students by July 30, and information about the virtual instructional model is available on the Hart County Schools web site.

Parents will have until July 30 to make a decision on the type of instruction their students will receive, and once made, that decision is final and will not be changed until school starts in January.

New teacher orientation will be August 3 -4, and Pre-planning will be 8 days starting August 5-14.

The Board also added four days to the end of the school year, making the last day of school for students next spring on June 4, 2021.

Dates for schools’ open house will be announced later.
