Hartwell Man Charged in Connection with South Carolina Wreck

A Hartwell man is charged in Oconee County, SC with being responsible for a wreck last week in Westminster that injured another Hartwell man and an 8-year old child.

The wreck happened on Highway 11 about 9:30 last Thursday evening when a pick up truck struck the back of a vehicle driven by Able Chavez-Bausita of Hartwell.

After the wreck, the driver of the pick up got out and ran.

Chavez-Bausita and an 8-year old passenger were airlifted from the scene for medical treatment and the road was shut down for some six hours while troopers investigated and crews cleared the scene.

After the investigation by the highway patrol, South Carolina trooper Hovis said they arrested Michael Lee Murdock of Hartwell

Murdock is charged with felony DUI with great bodily injury.

He was taken to the Walhalla jail.

The trooper had no explanation if there was a connection between Murdock and Chavez-Bausita.
