Home Heating Assistance Program Begins for Elderly, Home-Bound Nov. 1

Brenda Dalin Director of the Ninth District Opportunity in Gainesville tells WLHR News sign up for their Home Heating Assistance program will begin November 1 for households in which every member is age 65 and older -OR- is medically homebound due to health reasons.

Dalin said one-time payments will be made by check issued to the home heating suppliers up to $400.00. Eligibility for the program is based on the income of all household members.

Applications for those under 65 begins December 1st.

The Georgia Department of Human Services through 9th District Opportunity in Gainesville is helping to pay heating costs for low-income homes with either gas, propane, or electric heating.

To apply for home heating assistance you must first call to make an appointment using the Ninth District’s toll-free number beginning November 1st.

Dalin said no scheduling will be done before then.

The number to call to make an appointment is 855-636-3108 or you can go online to www.ndo.org/eap.

A representative will then call you back and schedule a time for you to come your local Ninth District office.

Dalin said when you go to your appointment you must bring verification of the age of every person in your home, verification of all household income from the past 30 days, verification of Social Security numbers, proof of citizenship such as a driver’s license, birth certificate, and your most recent heating bill and electric bill.
