Franklin County Elections Office Testing Voting Machines Today

The Franklin County Elections Office is testing voting machines today for the November municipal elections.

Elections Superintendent Tess Eubanks said state law requires the machines to be tested prior to each election.

“I am testing to make sure that the machines are going to work correctly that each machine will bring up the accurate ballot that pertains to the city in which the person is voting,” said Eubanks.

The public is allowed to come to the Elections and Registrations office in Carnesville and watch the testing process.

Franklin County will be conducting the municipal elections for Lavonia, Canon, Carnesville, and Franklin Springs and those municipalities will be using the Franklin County computerized voting machines on Election Day.

The City of Royston will be conducting their own municipal elections and Royston citizens with questions about their elections should contact Royston City Hall.

Later this month, the Franklin County Board of Elections will be meeting on the 17th with representatives from the four municipalities, according to Eubanks.

“The one coming up on October 17th at 6p is mainly for the cities we’ll be conducting elections for,” Eubanks said. “They are charged with examining their elector rolls and if they question any voter, we’ll be having a hearing on that date.”

Challenges would include items such as questioning whether a voter has a valid address or is currently registered, according to Eubanks.

And just a reminder for those in Lavonia, Canon, Carnesville and Franklin Springs, now is the time to contact Eubanks to request your absentee paper ballot.

“I am accepting absentee ballot applications. You can call this office and request one or you can download it from the Secretary of State’s Web site, fill it out and mail it to me,” Eubanks said.

Royston voters should contact Royston City Hall for paper absentee ballots.   And a final reminder that voter registration in order to be able to vote in November is going on through October 7th.

You can register in person at the Board of Elections and Registrations office in Carnesville or online at the Secretary of State’s Web site, www.sos.ga.gov/elections.
