No Charges Against Tractor Driver Who Hit Franklin County School Bus

tractor vs school busNo charges will be filed against the driver of a farm tractor involved in an accident with a Franklin County School bus.

It happened about 4p Thursday afternoon on SR17 near Grady School Road.

According to the Georgia State Patrol incident report, the driver of the tractor was traveling behind the school bus in the northbound lane when the bus stopped to off load children at the intersection of Twin Creeks Road and SR17.

The tractor ran into the back of the school bus, causing minor damage to the bus.

According to the report, the driver of the tractor told the trooper at the scene he had been blinded by sunlight and did not see that the bus had stopped.

The right front tire on the tractor was flattened in the wreck.

According to Franklin County Schools Transportation Director Jason Ayers, none of the children on the bus were hurt.

“There wasn’t any injuries, the kids are fine,” Ayers said. “Some were a little shaken up, but otherwise fine. The school bus did what it was designed to do and that is protect the children on board.”

A second school bus was called and the children were put on that bus and taken home.

The school bus did not appear to have any major damage, according to Ayers.  The driver of the tractor has not been identified.
