I-85 Road Work in Franklin County Continues All Month

Work to repair parts of I-85 from the Banks/Franklin County line north will continue through the rest of July.

That’s according to Georgia Department of Transportation spokesperson Teri Pope.

Pope tells WLHR News the maintenance work will continue weeknights on Interstate 85 north of SR 15/US 441, the Banks Crossing.

“Concrete is really great because it lasts a long time and it does not have to be re-surfaced as frequently as asphalt does,” said Pope. “But we are to that time now where we need to do some maintenance work on the concrete roadway. The concrete sections are poured in slabs of roughly one lane wide and roughly 12 to 14 feet long. The edges of those slabs is cracking or sometimes the caulk between the slabs is gone.”

She said crews will work overnights Monday through Thursday from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. the next morning as weather permits.

Work will is going on from Exit 149 at Banks Crossing for approximately five miles north to Exit 154 SR63/Martin Bridge Road.

Motorists can expect the right or outside lane of that five-mile stretch to be closed while the concrete slab maintenance continues.
