Franklin County Partners to Offer Free Prescription Drug Cards

Franklin County has signed up with a company to offer free prescription drug cards.

The company is called Coast2CoastRx.

Franklin County commissioner David Strickland said he learned of the free service at a recent ACCG meeting in Savannah.  Strickland said the cards are free to anyone in the county who wants one.

“This is an Rx prescription plan that can actually save citizens in the county up to 60% on their prescription drugs at no cost to them, at no cost to the county,” he told the board of commissioners recently. “Anything we can do to help citizens, that’s what we’re  here to do.”

According to their Web site (http://coast2coastrx.com/), the Coast2CoastRx prescription card is a discount card provided by township, city and county governments – and by local United Way organizations.

The program includes participation by U.S. pharmacies to provide annual savings up to 55%.  Savings on a single prescription can be as much as 75% (sometimes more) off the retail price of the drug.

Cardholders save on both brand name and generic drugs. All members of a family can use the card.  It is always FREE and the card can be used immediately, and there are no age, income or other exclusions and no forms to fill out.

County commission chair Thomas Bridges said the plan is a benefit the county is happy to provide its citizens.

“This is a positive for our citizens,” Bridges said. “With this card, when they purchase their prescriptions it will be a savings to them.”

The board of commissioners voted last week to sign on to the plan.
