Franklin County Man Charged With Threatening to Kill Deputies

A Franklin County man is expected to undergo a psychiatric evaluation after pointing a rifle at Sheriff’s deputies and threatening to kill them.

It happened Tuesday evening around 7p at a home in the Pleasant Hill Community.

Franklin County Sheriff Stevie Thomas said the suspect, identified as Donald Janes, age unknown, called 911 upset about a neighbor driving by his house on a four-wheeler.

During the conversation with 911 dispatchers, Janes allegedly said he was going to shoot somebody.  He then hung up and called Thomas on his cell phone.

“He stated to me that he was going to kill the deputies,” Thomas said. “Janes said I could come on to his property, but no one else could. I went to the house and met with him in the driveway and got him out into the carport.”

Thomas said during that conversation, Janes again became agitated and said he was going to shoot somebody. He then threatened  to get his rifle and kill the deputies.

As Janes started towards the door of his house Thomas said got in between Janes and the door.

“I stood in front of the door and blocked him from going inside and then took him down. My deputies came up and held him down and cuffed him,” Thomas said. “ Meantime, his father and sister tried to block the deputies to keep them from getting to Donald.”

Thomas said they were arrested and charged with obstruction for allegedly trying to block the deputies from getting to Donald Janes.

Donald Janes is charged with felony aggravated assault, terroristic threats and obstruction.  He was taken to the Franklin County Detention Center. No bond had been set as of Wednesday evening.

Janes’ father, identified as Frank Janes, age unknown, and his sister, identified as Connie Janes are charged with obstruction.

Frank Janes received a $22,500 bond and remains in the Franklin County Detention Center in Carnesville as of Wednesday evening.

Connie Janes received a $15,000 bond and was released.

Thomas said based on what was recorded on the 911 dispatch tape, things could have turned out very differently and he is grateful no one was hurt.
