10 Traffic Deaths Statewide Over Holiday Weekend

It was a busy holiday weekend for law enforcement and the Georgia State Patrol.

Traffic crashes across Georgia during the July Fourth holiday travel period resulted in 10 traffic deaths.  The holiday period began Wednesday, July 3 at 6 p.m. and ended Sunday at midnight.

Statewide, Georgia State Troopers investigated 785 traffic crashes that resulted in 374 injuries.  Troopers also investigated three fatal crashes that resulted in four traffic deaths.  Those fatal crashes occurred in Haralson, Jefferson, and Catoosa counties. 

No wrecks were reported in the GSP Troop B area, which includes Franklin, Hart, Stephens, Banks and Habersham counties.

Local agencies reporting traffic deaths during the holiday period included:  Henry County Police, Atlanta Police, Fulton County Police, Carrollton Police, the Jones County Sheriff’s Office, and the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office.

In addition to crash investigations, State Troopers arrested more than 300 people for driving under the influence statewide. 

Troopers also made more than 16,600 traffic stops.
