WorkSource Georgia Internship Program Helps Employers, Workers

With the current job market, many employers are having trouble finding trained workers for full-time positions.

If that’s the case at your business you might consider working with WorkSource Georgia Mountains’ Internship program.

Or if you are looking for a full-time permanent job but lack certain job skills, a paid internship might be your answer, and WorkSource Georgia Mountains can work with you as well, according to Program Coordinator Niki McPhearson.

“Participants gain job skills and training in a job they might not have any training in. It’s also good for someone who’s been to school but they don’t have any experience in that field. So they need the experience to put on their resume to be able to get a job. And it’s also a  good opportunity for them to try out an employer to see if they’re a good fit for that company,” she explained.

For the employer, McPhearson said it’s a chance to train someone for a possible permanent job at no cost.

“Maybe they have some short-term project or need that they can’t pull off their regular workforce to do. And it’s a good opportunity for the employer to try out someone who might be a good fit for a full-time, permanent position,” McPhearson said.

For the potential employee, McPhearson said there are some basic criteria they must meet.

“They do have eligibility requirements for the individual. There are income guidelines as well as being a Georgia resident and having the right to work in the United States,” she said.

The internships range from 80-480 hours over a 12-week period and interns are paid $11/hr while learning a new job skill.

That funding is paid for by Georgia Worksource Georgia Mountains.
