Woman Found Shot at Royston Animal Hospital
Investigators in Franklin County and Franklin Springs are still working on an incident at Royston Animal Hospital Tuesday that left a young woman dead.
Franklin Springs Police Chief Kevin Thompson said he received a call about 11:45a Tuesday morning regarding a woman found on the animal hospital property with a gunshot wound.
He said the woman was rushed to St. Mary’s Sacred Heart Hospital but was pronounced dead on arrival. Her identity has not been released.
Thompson called for assistance from the Franklin County Sheriff’s office and Royston Animal Hospital closed for the rest of the day while investigators interviewed staff. Royston Animal Hospital will remain closed for the rest of the week.
It’s not known if the woman was an employee and Chief Thompson stressed there was no threat to the public.
Franklin County Coroner Scott O’Barr tells WLHR News the body has been sent to the GBI Crime Lab in Atlanta for autopsy and he hopes to have more information on the cause of death later this week.
Chief Thompson said no other information on the case will be released at this time.
“This is a sad day for our community and what we need now from everyone is prayers for the family and those affected by today’s event, Thompson said.” I would like to personally thank the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office, Franklin County EMS, Franklin County Coroner’s Office, Royston Police Department, Franklin Springs Fire Department, and all other First Responders who responded and assisted us today. I would also like to commend the staff of Royston Animal Hospital for their bravery and their compassion today.”
