Weekend Rain Fills Lakes, Cancels Events

Rain washed out some events in the Northeast Georgia area and put a damper on others.

In Franklin County, the Lavonia spring festival struggled along as planned Saturday with few people showing up because of the continued rain fall.

However, in Hartwell, plans for the first “First Saturday” free concert at the Hartwell Marina were cancelled due to the showers.

And the NHRA officials also cancelled th is weekend’s Summit Racing Equipment NHRA Southern Nationals at Atlanta Dragway in Banks Crossing.

The event now will be held next weekend Friday and Saturday, May 10-11.

In Franklin County, weather volunteers with the Community Collaborative Rain, Hail and Snow Network (CoCoRHAS) reported a combined total of just over 4 inches of rain falling from Friday through Sunday night.

All that rain has brought Hartwell Lake up to full pool at 659.25 ft above mean sea level as of this morning.  Thurmond Lake is now just below  full pool at 326.66 and Russell Lake is a foot above full pool at 475.72 ft msl.
