Walker Expected Back in Court on Spring View Heights Shooting Last June

A Lavonia man charged with 10 felony counts in connection with a shooting incident last year is scheduled for an arraignment hearing before Senior Superior Court Judge Jeffrey Malcom next month.

It happened in early June 2022 in the Spring View Heights neighborhood of Lavonia.

According to the indictment, 22-year-old Jamal Walker of Lavonia, allegedly went to a home on Carolina Lane and shot a resident there multiple times.

At the time, Former Lavona Police Chief Bruce Carlisle said the shooting was the result of a dispute.

“The preliminary investigation revealed that some kind of conflict occurred between the victim and suspect during which a physical altercation began. The suspect then produced a semi-automatic handgun and began firing, striking the victim in the facial area and in the lower body area. From what we understand initially is that there were at least six rounds discharged from the weapon, some striking the residence where other people were inside,” he said.

Walker then also shot at a vehicle parked at the residence and then allegedly assaulted another person at the residence.

The victim called 911 saying he had been shot and gave the name of the person he said shot him. He was taken to a local hospital for treatment.

The victim was airlifted from St. Mary’s Sacred Heart Hospital in Lavonia to Northeast Georgia Medical Center in Gainesville where he was treated for his injuries.

The Franklin County Sheriff’s office was contacted by Lavonia investigators and Walker was later arrested in the Canon area.

Walker was later indicted on 10 felony counts by the Franklin County Grand Jury, including criminal attempt to commit a felony, aggravated assault, possession of firearm during commission of a felony, two counts of aggravated battery, and one count of aggravated assault.

He is being held without bond and is expected in Franklin County Superior Court on February 9 for an arraignment hearing.
