Virginia Man Identified as Lake Burton Drowning Victim
A Virginia man has been identified as the person who drowned over the weekend on Lake Burton in Rabun County.
He identified as 57-year old Keith Hill of Gainesville, Virginia.
Authorities say Hill jumped into Lake Burton Sunday morning, went under and did not resurface.
Hill was reportedly visiting a friend at a home on Meeting House Mountain Road in Clayton.
Clayton Fire Department officials told Fox Carolina TV the call came in around 10:30a Sunday morning.
Rabun County Search and Rescue, EMS and firefighters were called to the scene, as well.
Additionally, Oconee County Emergency Management and Towns County Emergency Management’s dive teams were called out to assist.
The Georgia Department of Natural Resources also helped in the search.
Rabun County Emergency Management Director Michael Mazarky says crews recovered Hill’s body around 1:30 p.m.
His name was released by the Rabun County Coroner’s office after family members were contacted.
