Veterans Honored Today Across Northeast Georgia

Today is Veterans Day and over the weekend, the Lavonia VFW Post 5897 held a Veterans Bash Weekend at their E. Main St. post.

The Friday-Saturday event included a Friday night concert by the Dukes of Hazard and a dance Saturday night.

Also on Saturday, free haircuts were offered to First Responders and veterans at the post.

Today, in Stephens County there will be a Veterans Day Observance held in the Pavilion at Camp Toccoa at Currahee.

The event is slated to begin at 11:00 a.m.

Veterans from all wars and conflicts, families and guests are invited to join.

According to Organizer Rick Hack, Major General (Ret.) James A. Guest will be the speaker for the Veterans Day Observance.

Hack adds that transportation to and from the parking lot will be provided.

Following the presentation, the local VFW Post 4346 will provide a hotdog lunch.

In Hartwell, Hart County High School is hosting a Veterans Day event at 10a at the Fine Arts Center and Hart County Middle School is holding a Veterans Day celebration at 9a in the gym.

And a number of restaurants and businesses are offering free meals or discounts today for active military and veterans.

Also, the Huddle House in Hartwell is offering veterans and active military a free order of Sweet Cakes through Tuesday.
