Taste of Toccoa Tonight

An annual Spring event returns to downtown Toccoa tonight.

The 24th annual “A Taste of Toccoa” takes place tonight in downtown Toccoa from 5 to 8 p.m.

Toccoa Main Street Events Coordinator Sharon Crosby said “Taste” is one of Toccoa’s most popular downtown events each year.

“It is an opportunity for our local restaurants and caterers to sell some of their food items,” said Crosby. “It is just a sampling.”

To purchase food or get on one of the rides, people will purchase tokens. Each token costs 50 cents.

“Taste” booths and activities will center on Doyle Street between Sage Street and Troup’s, as well as on Pond and Sage streets.

Crosby said that the city is trying something different with the layout this year.

“The stage will be down on Pond Street instead of on Sage Street,” said Crosby, who added most children’s games and rides will be at the intersection of Sage and Doyle streets.

Entertainment will begin at 5 p.m. and continue throughout the evening.

Also, Crosby notes that many downtown businesses will be open and the Studio will be open and displaying art of local artists during “Taste” this evening.

Crosby also said people will have an opportunity to vote for their favorite food items tonight.

“You do have again this year, the People’s Choice Award,” said Crosby. “Vote for (your favorite food item) at the WNEG Tent.”

Another contest taking place tonight is an Instagram contest where people can take a photo at “Taste,” post it to Instagram with the label, #taste of toccoa, and whoever gains the most “Likes” for their photo will win a $20 gift certificate to the downtown business of their choice.

Meanwhile, the city noted that Doyle and Pond streets in downtown will close from 2 to 9 p.m. tonight for “Taste” and Sage Street will close at noon.

The city said parking will still be available in the parking lots on Tugalo and Foreacre streets.

WNEG will also be broadcasting live reports from downtown Toccoa during “A Taste of Toccoa” tonight.
