Suspect in Custody After High-speed Chase Into South Carolina

A high-speed chase up I-85 Tuesday afternoon resulted in an arrest in Anderson County, SC.

It started about 2p Tuesday near the weigh station when Franklin County Sheriff’s deputies tried to stop a black Acura for speeding northbound on the Interstate.

As deputies approached, the Acura put it into high-gear reaching 90mph by the time it went under the Exit 173 overpass.

The chase continued with the Georgia State Patrol assisting as the Acura raced towards the South Carolina state line.

Once in South Carolina GSP turned the pursuit over to the South Carolina law enforcement, but Franklin County Deputies continued the chase with speeds reaching over 100mph.

The chase continued up 85 and as the pursuit reached Exit 4 in Oconee County, SC speeds were clocked near 130mph.

The Acura continued to race up the Interstate but Franklin County Sheriff Steve Thomas said his deputies, along with deputies from the Anderson County Sheriff’s office, were able to box the vehicle in and the driver gave up.

After a brief struggle he was taken into custody according to the Sheriff.

The name of the driver has not been released nor the charges he’s facing.
