Sunday Traffic Stop Leads to Large Drug Bust in Franklin County

Sunday, January 18th, Deputies with the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office conducted a traffic stop on a 2016 Toyota Corolla for speeding.

 

While speaking to the driver deputies became suspicious of criminal activity. They asked for consent to search the vehicle and the driver denied consent.

 

A Canine Unit from the Banks County Sherriff’s Office was requested and deployed. The canine unit gave a positive alert for narcotics on the vehicle. A search was conducted and approximately 28 lbs. of methamphetamines along with an undetermined amount of US currency.

 

Also during the traffic stop a male subject was located at the Red Roof Inn that was with Ms. Yount.

The street value of the methamphetamines was over $200,000.

 

The driver, Julie Yount of Nebo, North Carolina was arrested for trafficking methamphetamines, possession of a schedule one controlled substance, possession of a schedule four controlled substance, and 2 counts of possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime.

Benjamin Sprouse, 32, of Ellenboro, North Carolina was arrested for full extradition warrant out of North Carolina.

 

Both remain in the Franklin County Detention Center.
