Stop the Rendering to Undergo Name Change But Not Purpose

The success on the part of citizens in preventing Pilgrim’s Pride from building a rendering plant in Franklin County has created a new awareness of the power of the people directing the future of their community.

That’s why on Monday, Elizabeth Busby, the administrator for the Stop the Rendering  Facebook page announced she was changing the name of the group from Stop the Rendering to Advance Franklin County.

“I feel this name states our purpose the best. I have so many names that I really like but ultimately think this is best…I hope we remain a praying, involved group.,” she said in her FB post.

Busby said the name will officially change on Facebook next week.

Stop the Rendering was formed earlier this year as a citizen-led effort to prevent Pilgrim’s from building a $70-million dollar rendering and pet food ingredient plant on Highway 320 and I-85.

Their efforts at researching Pilgrim’s track record at their other locations and ferreting out a laundry list of fines imposed on the company in other states for pollution and environmental violations caused Pilgrim’s to back out of their plan and look somewhere else.

In her post, Busby exhorted members to continue to work together to keep each other informed regarding what’s happening in Franklin County.

“We can work to keep each other informed of what’s going on in our county and can work alongside our elected officials to keep Franklin County a place we are all proud of and happy to call home! … I want this to be a group everyone is proud to be a part of. An informed group of citizens who remain respectful and prayed up can help ensure Franklin County is a place we can all proudly pass down to future generations,” Busby concluded.
