Royston Passes FY14 Budget

The Royston City Council has approved the town’s FY14 budget.

At their regular meeting last week, the council voted unanimously to pass the budget after holding a final public hearing in which there was no comment.

“Our total budget in the General Fund is $2,425,165 and that’s revenue and expenditures,” said City Clerk and Chief Financial Officer Gloria Brown. “We have  total budget overall of $7,100,524, which actually represents five percent less than FY13.”

Brown said the budget is tighter for FY14 and  there are no major expenses projected.

“We do not have a lot of fixed assets or major purchases, such as vehicles or equipment, this year,” She said. “So it’s a pretty lean budget and we’ll try to stay within it.”

One area that was trimmed, Brown said, was in the Police Department where they scaled back and streamlined Police Dispatch.

Brown said none of the belt tightening had to do taking funds to help pay for the renovation of the public library and old city hall buildings.

Those two projects, she said, are being paid for with grants, SPLOST funds, and donations.

“We just continue to be conservative because of the uncertain economy,” she said.

Royston’s fiscal year begins July 1st.
