Royston City Council Approves New Equipment for Police, Fire Departments
The City of Royston Police and the Fire Departments will soon receive new much-needed equipment.
At Tuesday’s meeting, Royston City Councilmen approved the purchase of new police radios, body cameras, and new tasers after hearing from City Manager Lanier Dunn.
Dunn said the new cameras and tasers will be provided via a five-year contract with Axon Enterprises.
The annual fee for the new body cameras and tasers is $24,951, and it will be included in the City’s budget.
Additionally, Dunn requested approval from the Council for new police radios for the department in the amount of $70,628.
Police Chief Brooks Moorehead said the new equipment has been needed for some time.
Additionally, the Council approved the purchase of a new pumper truck for the Royston Fire Department and air packs for the truck, which will replace an outdated water truck.
The cost of the new fire truck is $409,285 and the cost of the four new air packs with eight cylinders is $42,020.
Lanier said the new truck and air packs will be paid for using SPLOST funds.
