Retired Hartwell GSP Post Commander Elected to Georgia Peace Officers Assn

Retired Commander of the Hartwell Georgia State Patrol post, Scott Andrews has been elected to a new position within the Georgia Peace Officers Association.

“I’ve served on the Executive Board with the Peace Officers Associaton of Georgia for quite a few years,” he said. “This year in August, at our annual training conference in Georgia I was elected vice-president of the organization.”

As part of the his duties as vice-president Andrews will oversee the ongoing training of law enforcement officers, which he said has now expanded to more extensive active-shooter training.

“This year we offered all of the Governor’s Incentive training; the use of force, the de-escalation of use of force training,” Andrews explained. “We went through active shooter training, which is very important at this time, unfortunately. We had officers from Lakeland Florida where they had that tragic shooting at the high school come up. And they came up and debriefed with all of the officers on what happened, and what could have been done different in that situation.”

Other aspects of the Georgia Peace Officers Association include, supporting legislation that benefits law enforcement, providing scholarships for members and their families, providing death benefits for the families of fallen officers when funds are available.

Andrews has been in law enforcement for 32 years before retiring from the Georgia State Patrol last February.

He has been a member of the Georgia Peace Officers Association for 17 years and is currently running for Sheriff in Franklin County.
