Ninth District Opportunity Offering Help With Summer Cooling Bills to Elderly

Ninth District Opportunity has received funding to help the elderly, and other low-income households pay their summer cooling bills.

On April 1 low-income households with residents over the age of 65 could begin applying for assistance.

According to Paula Duley with Ninth District Opportunity in Toccoa, if you are over 65 and need help paying your electric bills through the summer you can call now to make an appointment.

Those who are approved will get a $400 credit on the electric bill to help pay for their summer cooling bill.

Duley said eligibility for the program is based on the income of all household members.

To apply for the program, you can call toll-free 855-636-3108 or go online to www.ndo.org/eap.

Appointments will be scheduled until all funds are exhausted.

Right now, only households 65 years of age and older, homebound, or Medically homebound may apply during April.

The cooling assistance program will open to the general public on May I, 2020.
