NEGA Animal Shelter Plans Fall Rabies Clinic

The Northeast Georgia Animal Shelter will hold its fall rabies clinic next month.

Shelter Manager Tammie Jourdenais tells WLHR News the clinic will be held Saturday, October 10, from 10a to 2p at the shelter on Bear Creek Road in Lavonia.

Rabies vaccines for dogs and cats are $5 for a one-year, $10 for a three-year.

Other vaccines are also available for your pets at extremely discounted prices.

The feline FVRCP distemper vaccine and the canine DHPPV distemper vaccine are $7 each.  You will also be able to have your pet microchipped for just $20 at the rabies clinic.

The annual spring rabies clinic at the shelter had to be canceled because of the coronavirus and due to the virus still spreading, there will be certain protocols in place when you bring your pet to be vaccinated, according to Jourdenais.

“You can have your dogs vaccinated in your car if like, but if you are bringing cat it must be vaccinated inside our building,” she said. “In that case, you must wear a mask for the safety of our staff and veterinarians.”

Now you will be able to bring your dog inside if you like but you will need to wear a face mask.

Outside in the parking lot where the sign-up forms will be located will also be set up for social distancing.

The rabies clinic is not limited to residents of Franklin County. Anyone with a pet who needs to be vaccinated may bring them to the clinic.

No credit or debit cards will be accepted, only cash or check.
