National Weather Service Issues Severe Storm Watch for Northeast Georgia, Upstate, Western North Carolina

The National Weather Service in Greenville-Spartanburg has issued a Winter Storm Watch for all of Northeast Georgia, Western North Carolina, and the Upstate of South Carolina beginning Saturday morning through Monday afternoon.

Heavy mixed precipitation is possible with snow and sleet accumulations of up to 6 inches in the mountains, and ice accumulations between 4 tenths and an inch are possible.

The Highest snow and sleet accumulations are possible north of I-40.

Highest ice accumulations are possible across the southern mountains of North Carolina, the mountains of northeast Georgia, and the mountains of South Carolina.

People should consider delaying all travel.

If travel is absolutely necessary, drive with extreme caution.

Consider taking a winter storm kit along with you, including such items as tire chains, booster cables, flashlight, shovel, blankets, and extra clothing.

Also, take water, a first aid kit, and anything else that would help you survive in case you become stranded.
