National Day of Prayer Coming Up Thursday, May 1
The National Day of Prayer is coming up Thursday, May 1, and counties and towns across the nation will take time that day to stop and pray for our country.
The theme for the 2025 National Day of Prayer is “Pour Out to the God of Hope and Be Filled!”. This theme is inspired by the scripture verse Romans 15:13, which says, “Now may the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, so that you will abound in hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.”
In Franklin County, County Manager Terry Harris said the community prayer will be held on the grounds of the Franklin County Courthouse, but instead of at noon as it has been in the past, this year the prayer service will take place at a later time.
And as they do every year in Hart County, the Interdenominational Women’s Bible Study will host a prayer service on the grounds of the Hart County Courthouse in downtown Hartwell on May 1 beginning at noon.
Ministers from seven different churches in Hart County will lead those attending in a special prayer on the seven different topics, Education, Military, Government, Church, Families, Media, and Business.
There will also be the Pledge of Allegiance, and patriotic songs will be sung.
92.1 WLHR will carry the Hart County National Day of Prayer live at noon from the square in downtown Hartwell.
A national day of prayer has a long history in the US, dating as far back as 1746.
The National Day of Prayer tradition even predates the founding of the United States of America, evidenced by the Continental Congress’ proclamation in 1775 setting aside a day of prayer.
In 1952, Congress established an annual day of prayer and, in 1988, that law was amended, designating the National Day of Prayer as the first Thursday in May.
