Spilled Coffee Blamed for Morning Wreck on Hwy 17 that Severely Injures One

WLHR News was on scene this morning of a major rollover crash on Highway 17, in Eastanollee, near Scott Road.

According to Stephens County Sheriff Randy Shirley, the accident happened after a man spilled coffee on himself causing him to rear end another vehicle.

After the vehicle was struck in the rear, it eventually rolled over, severely injuring the driver.

The driver was then airlifted to Northeast Georgia Medical Center, in Gainesville.

Shirley says the driver who is responsible for the accident sustained minor injuries; however, the extent of his injuries could change, due to the driver not wearing a seatbelt.

At this time, the identities of the two involved have yet to be released.

Lanes in both directions were shut down for a short time. They have since cleared the scene and reopened the lanes.

No word on whether the driver who spilled his coffee will be charged.
