Middle Georgia Man Arrested in Franklin Co. on Drug Charges

A Middle Georgia man is under arrest in Franklin County after a one-vehicle wreck.

According to Franklin County Sheriff Steve Thomas, it happened on August 31 when call came in regarding a one-vehicle accident on Old Federal Road near Garrison Road.

“Deputies were enroute when deputies received a second call advising that a passerby saw a white male in tan shorts and black t-shirt walking from the accident site towards the Interstate,” Thomas said. “Deputies made contact with a white male identified as John Cook for Fort Valley, Georgia. He was patted down and a 32 caliber revolver was found in his pocket.”

Deputies arrested Cook and took him to the Franklin County Detention Center where Thomas says, they found drugs on him.

“Mr. Cook advised the officers that he had drugs in his pocket where the gun was located. Deputies did a search and found a clear plastic bag containing a clear crystal substance. The crystal substance was tested and was positive for methamphetamine,” Thomas said.

Cook is charged with possession of methamphetamine, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, and a hold for Houston County.

Bond was set at $8,000.

He remains in the Franklin County Detention Center.
