Lavonia North Georgia Tech Student Honored by State

A Lavonia woman is one of 28 adult technical college students in Georgia recently honored by the Technical College System of Georgia for exceptional accomplishments and outstanding participation in the state’s adult education program.

North Georgia Technical College student Kelly Johnson of Lavonia was among those who reached the finalist stage. Johnson is a student at the Currahee Campus and she was nominated by her instructor Jackie Reeder.

“We are so proud of Kelly Johnson’s achievement at the 20th annual EAGLE competition,” said Dean for Adult Education Shelby Ward. “It is an honor to be selected by your instructor to be one of the 28 finalists out of the 70,000 students that are enrolled in adult education in the state of Georgia. Kelly represented North Georgia Tech well!”

Johnson achieved her GED® last year and immediately enrolled as a student at North Georgia Technical College.

Each year, the Exceptional Adult Georgian in Literacy Education (EAGLE) Award recognizes the educational achievement and outstanding leadership skills demonstrated by students who are in the process of studying for or have earned their GED® credential.

The 28 EAGLE students were honored  during the EAGLE Institute banquet at the Renaissance Waverly Hotel in Atlanta on March 19.
