For many visitors to the fair state of Georgia, Atlanta and Savannah are where all the fun is.

But, little do they know, Georgia’s small-town scene is equally as exciting.

There are quite a few towns and rural areas that are worth checking out, each with a dose of Southern hospitality and community spirit, according to onlyinourstate.com/georgia.

The website recently listed the top seven small towns in Georgia that are worth a visit if you’re looking to get away.

At the top of their list was the City of Lavonia.

With a population of less than 3,000, the website noted Lavonia is a beautiful small rural town with tons of character.

Lavonia Mayor Courtney Umbehant credits the friendly people and the charm of the city for attracting visitors who typically want to come back again.

“I think we have a unique, charming town that is certainly very welcoming to everyone passing through,” he said. “I think the friendliness of our people makes a big difference. I think it’s great that people are seeing the charming town that we know Lavonia is.”

Coming in at number 4 on their list is Hartwell, the Hart County seat on Lake Hartwell known for its ever-expanding list of shops and new restaurants.

Other small towns on their list of tiny towns worth a visit include Helen, Senoia, Plains, Ga, Milledgeville, and Ball Ground.
