Lavonia DDA Soliciting Artwork for New Image Campaign

As we head towards the New Roaring 20’s, Lavonia’s Downtown Development Authority is looking for a new image to market all that the City has to offer.

DDA Executive Director Vivian Young says a contest has been going on since last January artists to submit their ideas.

Young said instead of paying an outside design firm to come up with a logo, the DDA decided to solicit ideas from local talent.

“We’ve got some really talented artists here,” she said. “And we’ve got designers and things like that. So, we put out a letter and we sent it out to area are teachers in the tri-county area. They do not have to be from the Lavonia or even Franklin County. This is for artists from all over. So, in the last couple of weeks they’ve started coming in, and we’re sending out more applications.”

The deadline to submit a design or idea to the Lavonia DDA is next Friday, November 22.

Young said any kind of media can be used, including computer graphics and they’ve already received a wide variety of ideas.

“Some of them have used things you’d never even think of in Lavonia. Some have used the depot. Some have used the train. Some have used the lake. Some have used bees. They’ve just come up with a lot of different ideas. We kind of put it pretty broad,” Young said.

Once the deadline has passed, the Downtown Development Board will then review all of the submissions and make their selection.

The winner will receive $500 for their work and their design will be used on all future promotional materials.

Second place will receive $200 and third place $100.  Again the deadline to submit your design idea is next Friday, November 22.
