Investigation Continues in Case of Carnesville Man Struck on Highway 145

No charges have been filed against the person who struck a Carnesville man last week on Highway 145.

The Georgia State Patrol Hartwell Post investigated the accident that happened the night of Sunday, August 31.

According to the crash report, 56-year old Bradley Allen Smith of Carnesville was walking along Highway 145 when he was hit by a vehicle driven by 41-year old Charles Bradley Terry of Martin.

Terry left the scene of the accident but GSP troopers later found his vehicle, a 1999 Ford F-250.

Terry told troopers he did not realize he had hit a person. He said he drove a little further from the accident then stopped and got out of his vehicle to check it for damage thinking he had hit a deer.

Smith, meantime, was taken by Franklin County EMS to St. Mary’s Sacred Heart Hospital in Lavonia where he was pronounced dead.

The Georgia State Patrol’s Specialized Collision Reconstruction Team was brought in to investigate but the results of their investigation are not yet available.
