Highway 59/Highway 77 intersection becomes a 4-way stop today

The Georgia DOT has updated the operations at the two-way stop intersection of State Route 59 and State Route 77 starting today. Beginning at 10 a.m. traffic will operate as a four-way-stop.

Electronic message boards are in place alerting motorists of the change.

Rumble strips have been installed to lanes approaching the intersection and additional maintenance to the concrete island and shoulders was completed on Monday.

The change is a response to the Hart County Board of Commissioners’ request to GDOT for a traffic study at the intersection following an increase in accidents at the location, at least one of which was fatal.

At a recent Hart County commissioners meeting, County Manager Terrell Partain said long-range plans could include a roundabout at the intersection.
