High-speed Chase Ends With Arrest of 13-year old Boy

A 13-year old Hart County boy is in custody after leading authorities on a high-speed chase through Hart and Franklin County.

It happened Wednesday afternoon when according to Georgia State Patrol Hartwell Post Commander Sgt. Tracy Webb, they got a call from Hart County regarding a stolen 2014 Chevy Impala.

“Hart County had a lookout for a stolen vehicle. An off-duty officer spotted it and got in contact with an on-duty officer. From that point, it was located somewhere around Bowersville. From that point, the pursuit started there and went into Lavonia. Contact was made around Adams St. the vehicle came to a stop. The deputy exited the vehicle to perform an arrest. He didn’t get too far when the suspect backed into him and took off again,” Webb said.

At that point, Webb said troopers became involved in the pursuit.

“The State Patrol got involved around East Main St., he said. “And went out Highway 77 connector into Hart County. Approximately around the race track, the violator break checked the trooper, causing the trooper to hit the suspect in the rear. The violator then went off the roadway, tried to get back on the roadway and we performed a pit maneuver and boxed him in shortly after that.”

That’s when Webb said the troopers discovered the suspect was a 13-year old juvenile.

Webb said the juvenile reportedly had stolen another vehicle earlier that day.

The boy was taken into custody and is facing multiple charges related to the vehicle theft.

Webb said the juvenile is being held in juvenile detention.
