HC Sheriff’s Office reports three burglaries over the past week

According to reports by the Hart County Sheriff’s Office, there were at least three burglaries over the past week with one arrest being reported.

A Canon resident on Royston Highway reported an attempted burglary on March 5.

A deputy was dispatched to a Royston Highway address and upon arrival found the property owner standing in front of a metal building. According to the resident, a subject was sitting inside the building.

The deputy asked the subject to come out of the building. The subject was identified as 54-year-old Jeffrey Martin Moore of a Redwine Church Road address in Canon. The deputy asked Moore what he was doing in the building and Moore replied he was just sitting there. Moore also stated he had been inside the residence next to the metal building as well.

At this point the deputy placed Moore in handcuffs, placed him in his patrol car and read him his Miranda rights.

The resident stated someone had been in the storage building before and had scattered things, making a mess.

The deputy noticed a number of items boxed up and sitting by the door. The deputy also noted damage to the door, which the resident stated was not previously there.

Moore has been charged with first degree burglary, second degree burglary and criminal trespass.

A Bowersville resident on Doyle Road reported a burglary on March 6.

The resident told the deputy upon arriving home from work, she noticed her Playstation 4 and Xbox One were missing.

The resident stated that she did not lock the door.

A Hartwell resident on Saints Drive reported a burglary which had occurred some time between March 8-10.

The resident stated he and his daughter had been out of town for a few days and noticed some items missing when they returned home. The resident also stated it appeared someone had “jimmied” open the back door.

The deputy took photos of the damage to the door.

The resident told the deputy the only things he had noticed missing were a pair of black Timberland boots, a pair of black Vann’s shoes and a makeup kit.

All of the items had been in the daughter’s room.

The burglaries are active and still under investigation.
